Removal Checklist

Moving house is a huge operation. Here, in a nutshell, are the basic points to cover before, during and after your move.

  • Prepare a six week ‘moving day’ plan. To view a full Moving Planner, click here
  • Contact an AFRA Removalist as soon as you know you are moving.
  • Take time to review your removalist quotes prior to signing any documents.
  • If you are offered insurance, make sure the removalist is authorised to do so. They must give you a product disclosure statement and a Financial Services Guide. It is wise to say ‘yes’ to insurance.
  • Be sure you have an AFRA or industry approved contract and your insurance forms are correctly completed before proceeding with your removal.
  • Agree to payment terms with your removalist prior to removal.
  • Decide on what will be packed professionally and what you can do yourself.
  • Know which items you will need to place in storage and always ask how your goods will be stored.
  • Ask about the cleaning services that AFRA members can assist you with.
  • Ensure someone, if you are unable to be there, is at the new property to take delivery of your goods. Let you removalist know this before moving because they may not simply leave your goods with a person they don’t know.
  • Take time to make sure everything is accounted for before signing off.
